How to Grow and Care for Your Cat Grass
🌱 DIY Cat Grass Kit Instructions
What’s Inside:
- 9 coconut coir soil pellets
- Wheatgrass seeds
- 2 seed bags
You’ll Need:
- A bowl or pot to hold your seed bag
- Water
- A sunny windowsill or spot with good light
🐾 Let’s Grow!
- Place 7 pellets directly inside one seed bag.
- Add water slowly until they fully expand into fluffy soil (about ½–¾ cup).
- In a separate bowl, hydrate the remaining 2 pellets—this will become your top layer.
- Plant the Seeds
- Spread the seeds evenly on top of the moist soil in the seed bag.
- Gently press them into the soil with your fingers.
- Cover with Top Soil
- Use the extra 2 pellets (from the bowl) as a thin top layer to lightly cover the seeds.
- Let It Sprout (2 Days)
- Keep the planted bag out of direct sunlight for the first 2 days. A shaded spot is ideal.
- This encourages sprouting.
- Move to the Light
- Once you see green shoots, move the bag into a sunny spot.
- Direct sunlight is okay—in fact, most grass thrives with some direct sun! Just be careful with too much direct sun. Don’t let grass dry out. Indirect bright light is fine too. You’ll likely find your own purrfect grow spot that your cat can access.
1.Optional: Aesthetic Upgrade
- When roots start poking through the seed bag, place it into a pouch or tall pot, or wrap in fabric for a cleaner look. Bags can also be trimmed or folded over the top.
- Always keep the seed bag inside a bowl or pot to catch any extra water
2. Watering:
Keep the soil slightly moist.
• Check daily: if the top feels dry, add a few tablespoons of water to the base.
• Avoid overwatering—too much moisture can cause mold or root rot.
3. Airflow:
Good airflow helps keep your grass fresh. If possible, don’t crowd it between objects or in a stuffy space.
What to Expect:
• Immediate Enjoyment: Most cats are drawn to the grass right away—chewing, sniffing, or even rubbing their faces in it.
• Growth: Your grass is fully sprouted and ready to go! You may see new growth for up to a week.
• Lifespan: Typically lasts 7–14 days, depending on environment and how much your cat nibbles. Discard once the grass starts to yellow or wilt.
Tip: If your cat overeats grass quickly, consider offering it in short sessions to make it last longer.
Eco-Friendly Note:
The base bag is biodegradable—feel free to compost it or repurpose it in your garden.
